The Rich And Hope


As the saying goes "Richness is measured in sharing the wealth, not having it".  

Meenamma, a humble lady aged 85, made us realize the truth behind the saying.     

When the heart and soul of abhaya Foundation, Mr. Balachandra, tests positive for Covid-19 on an unfortunate day.Panicked Meenamma rushes to the manager, gives her Mangalsutra, requests it to be sold for treatment and prays selflessly for his recovery.  Not many days back, she had also donated her Gold bangles for a good cause.

A few days later, to our dismay, she falls sick and tests positive for the Coronavirus. The humble lady she is, offers to sell her earrings and gleans some money for the treatment.

The founder , after a few days of hospital care, recovered and headed back to abhaya Home. The news about Meenamma leaves him awestruck. Listening to everyone sing praises about her selfless being, the founder lands somewhere deep inside the melancholy of melody. 

Her 85 years of selfless being, graced by God, opens the door of recovery for Meenamma. Her results test negative after 30 days of struggle.

Now that the unfortunate days are behind us, everyone at abhaya home joins for the usual prayer session. 

During the session, abhaya team led by the founder himself, makes her husband tie the mangalsutra back onto her neck and also returns her earrings. 

Meenamma is moved by the gesture of abhaya team. Her face brightens with pride. She enjoys the moment to its fullest, but sincerely returns the ornaments in the next. She is not oblivious of the material worth of the ornaments, but she is more aware of how immaterial it is when compared to her selfless nature. 

To prove a point, one need not only provide facts, but mere actions sometimes prove the same. Meenamma’s series of actions prove that richness has two meanings, one relates to accumulating and the other, being the true form, relates to sharing. 

“abhaya Home of Happiness” in Hyderabad protects people like Meenamma and gives them with the purpose and hope when the world tries to snatch that away from them. 

The question we leave with this story about Mennamma, is straight and simple, how do you define richness? The best answer would be to become rich by giving more, and not earning more.

If the rich lady above can donate selflessly, we perhaps being even richer can give our 2 cents. With abhaya foundation, the resources that are to be shared with the needy are directed efficiently to reach them.

Facet

Since how many days are we seeing people around us who are financially low but has immense talent. Since how many days are we seeing people around us who get deprived of oppurtunities because of their status in the society. Since how many days are we thinking that "Hope I get a chance to help such people"...."Hope I can do something to change the society I am living in". There are some people who take the lead to help others. There are some who wish they could but cannot find the correct way to do it. And there are others who have apprehensions about helping others, escpecially when money is involved. "What if the money I give doesnt reach the affected"..."What if my money gets wasted by the organisation". Believe me, I have journeyed through all the three cases. But my luck has it that I travalled exactly from the last case to the first. And now, I could trust that whatever money I collect or give or donate would definitely reach the needy

Why is it so difficult to help others....? Do we not have confidence that we can do something for others or is it the lack of empathy in us....?? All these blogs and Facebook accounts have been created to get closer to the younger minds. Yet, we do not see any kind of response from them. Are we so immersed in the race of life that we cannot see the grievances of the people living around us? One day, I keep a status about a hero or a song.....The very next hour...I receive umpteen number of likes and comments regarding that.... But, when I keep a status regarding social service or regarding saving money to donate to the needy....I hardly receive 1% of the response that I got earlier... Is it so difficult to save money for someone else? Is it necessary to know the person to help him? Is it not our minimum social responsibility that we give back something to the society? We donot know the urgency of the need until something happens to any of our friends or people we know....Un
